Then we have the perfect opportunity for you!
The National Market Traders Federation (NMTF) run an annual competition to find the nation’s best Young Market Trader.
Swansea will be hosting the South Wales Regional Final which will take place on 22 July and we’d love to see you there.
It’s free to take part and last year 10 young traders from the South Wales Regional Final went on to compete in the Grand Final with some great success. Anthony Johnson won the Grand Final prize in the Grocery Category whilst fellow Regional Finalist, Alana Jones was awarded a Highly Commended prize in the Arts and Crafts category.
So if you’re aged between 16 and 30, and:
- Have a new business or a business idea that you’d like to test, or
- Are already an established trader but looking for more exposure for your business, or
- Have an existing business but have not yet tried retail
Here’s what you need to do!
Step 1:
Register your interest by completing this simple online application form.
Step 2:
Take part in the local Swansea Market heat on Saturday 20 May and put your skills to the test! Impress the judges and you’ll be guaranteed to reach the Regional Final on 22 July.
Step 3:
Join the Young Traders Market in Swansea city centre on Saturday 22 July and show off your products, merchandising and sales skills! Winners will go through to the Grand Final in Stratford-upon-Avon on 25 and 26 August.
At the Grand Final, the product quality, merchandising, product knowledge, presentation, sales skills and customer service of up to 90 young traders will be put to the test to find the National Young Trader competition winner. There will also be a winner from each of the four competition categories – Arts & Craft, Grocery, Food & Drink and General Retail.
The competition has been growing for a few years and In 2019, the national final attracted an audience of millions with a feature on BBC prime time programme, ‘The One Show’.
The Grocery Category winner in 2019, Caribe Coffee & Co have also recently had the opportunity to pitch their product on BBC One’s Dragons’ Den.
Feedback from young traders who took part in the competition was fantastic, with lots of valuable learnings and experiences gained along the way to help fine-tune their business skills and products.
