50th Anniversary
Swansea Market celebrates its 50th Anniversary Year - Generations serving generations
Swansea suffered severely in the bombing raids of the Second World War. In all 387 people were killed in Swansea and the heart of the city was destroyed. It was rebuilt in the 1960s including the Market Hall that we see today which was officially opened on 18th May 1961 by Alderman Francis Charles Jones, Chairman of the Estates Committee.
Many of the traders that you see today in the Market have been there since the start.
Tuckers Fresh Fish , for example have been a prominent part of Market life with a third generation of the family running the popular fishmongers today.
To mark the 50th Anniversary year a fantastic host of activities and special offers will be available through out 2011 to promote the Markets long established heritage and to look forward to the future. Here are some of the highlights which include the launch of Facebook for the Market, coming soon!
